Without a doubt one of the most beautiful sceneries in the western hemisphere, is found in the southern Andes. For this reason a chain of Argentinian National Parks protect this beautiful region.
A considerable number of lakes, fed by the glaciers reflect the majestic surrounding of the sub-Antarctic forests such as the Lenga, which changes colors in autumn, the Cohiue which grows in humid areas around the lakes and rivers, and the Pellin which looks like an oak.
Certainly the most memorable tree is the Pehuen. It is an Araucaria exclusive of Argentina and Chile. Its fruit is used to make various dishes in Mapuche communities. Many of these species are more than a thousand years old.
Other species are the Cypresses which form extensive forests located in the transition area between the Patagonian plain and the mountains.
The most humid zone called The Valdivia Jungle, is formed by an incredible variety of trees, such as: the Alerce, which in many cases is more than 2000 years old. The Arrayán is also another interesting tree with its cinnamon colored bark and its incredible formations.
All these species brought together create an incredible wilderness experience.
